Greg Neil Named New State Fed Area Organizer

Greg Neil has been named the new Wisconsin AFL-CIO Service Area Organizer. Neil replaces Jim Giedd who reconsidered his retirement options last December, after several months in the job.

A graduate of the University of Evansville in his home state of Indiana, Neil has worked as an organizer in various political campaigns in the Midwest since 2006. His most recent job in the political arena was as regional field director for the 2008 Obama campaign. While headquartered in Green Bay, Neil lead the Obama campaign, while coordinating with other candidates further down the ticket, in 18 counties. The Obama campaign finished victorious in 16 of those counties.

Neil is responsible for working with the South Central Federation of Labor and union affiliates in Dane, Iowa, Sauk, Columbia, Dodge and Jefferson counties. In addition to serving as the lead political organizer within the region in each election cycle, Neil will also focus on union mobilization, support for organizing and contract fights, and legislative initiatives.

Neil says he’s excited to bring his “in the field” experience, building relationships with local unions and labor councils, to his new job. “It’s these relationships that help make our organizing goals attainable. That’s what connects us and holds us accountable,” he said.
